Breakdown of the Titanic sinking survivors.

  • 60% of first class passengers survived.
  • 42% of second class passengers survived.
  • 24% of third class passengers survived.
  • The most senior crew member to survive was Second Officer Charles Lightoller. His recollection of the events that happened that night are probably the most accurate to date. Lightoller was one of the strictest officers following the orders of women and children first. Lightoller blamed the collision on the seas calm and moonless night making it difficult to see any iceberg in the area.
